Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, has become the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) at just 35, making him the youngest ever to hold this position. He succeeds Greg Barclay, who was appointed at 62 and chose not to seek a third term. Shah’s appointment was unopposed and backed by major cricket boards, including the ECB and ACB.

Shah’s journey in cricket administration began with the Gujarat Cricket Association in 2009, where he became Secretary in 2013. In 2019, he advanced to become the BCCI Secretary, demonstrating strong leadership. A significant milestone in his career was the launch of the Women’s Premier League in early 2023, which quickly gained popularity.
Upon his appointment, Shah expressed his gratitude and outlined his priorities, emphasizing the importance of balancing multiple formats of the game. He aims to promote the adoption of advanced technologies and introduce ICC events to new markets. Shah has also highlighted the need to prioritize Test cricket and ensure more Test matches for women’s teams. Additionally, he plans to provide an equitable share of ICC revenue to all cricket boards, ensuring the sport’s global growth and inclusivity.
