Jason Gillespie Faces Uncertainty After PCB Dismisses Pakistan’s Assistant Coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a surprising move by firing high-performance red-ball coach Tim Nielsen ahead of the crucial Test series against South Africa. Head coach Jason Gillespie brought Nielsen in August this year, and the PCB had planned to renew his contract after the Australia series. However, the PCB decided not to extend his tenure. Nielsen expressed his disappointment, especially as the team was progressing well and preparing for the upcoming series against South Africa and West Indies. As a result, Pakistan will proceed with their Test series in South Africa without Nielsen.

Meanwhile, Gillespie’s future with the team is also uncertain. The PCB has reduced the Australian coach’s responsibilities, limiting his role to a match-day strategist. The PCB also removed him from the selection panel, increasing the tension in the camp. Gillespie has expressed his frustration over not being informed or consulted about Nielsen’s sacking.

Speculation is growing that Gillespie could lose his position after the South Africa series, despite the PCB previously denying the rumors. The board had confirmed that Gillespie would remain a key figure for the upcoming series. As tensions rise, the Australian coach will leave for South Africa on December 13. However, his future remains uncertain, with the PCB likely making a decision after the two-match series against South Africa.
