Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul will be sidelined for the upcoming second Test against England, commencing on February 2 in Visakhapatnam.
Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during the fourth day of the initial Test in Hyderabad, while Rahul grappled with right quadriceps pain, as per a BCCI statement. In response to these setbacks, India’s squad has seen the inclusion of Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar.
Saurabh Kumar, a proficient left-arm spinner from Uttar Pradesh boasting 290 first-class wickets at 24.41, enters the squad in stellar form following a recent five-wicket performance for India A against England Lions. Sarfaraz Khan, an impactful middle-order batter, showcased his prowess with a remarkable 160-ball 161 in the same match. The absence of Jadeja and Rahul, coupled with Virat Kohli’s ongoing personal reasons, presents a formidable challenge for India to recover from their initial Test defeat.
The versatile contributions of Jadeja, both with the bat and ball, pose a significant void in the team. India may consider Kuldeep Yadav, the dynamic left-arm wristspinner, as a potential replacement. However, Sundar, though a similar replacement, faces scrutiny regarding his ability to manage Jadeja’s bowling workload.
