Ishan Kishan will return to red-ball cricket as the captain of Jharkhand for the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament. The Jharkhand State Cricket Association has announced Ishan Kishan as their leader for the pre-season red-ball competition, which starts in Tamil Nadu on August 15.

Initially, the selectors did not include Ishan Kishan, but they considered him once he confirmed his availability. The team management decided to appoint him as captain, offering him a significant chance to re-enter the Indian Test setup.Kishan last played a domestic first-class match in 2022 and had previously shown disinterest in the Ranji Trophy, which resulted in the discontinuation of his central contract earlier this year.
Leading Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu Trophy, Ishan Kishan aims to showcase his skills and compete with Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel for the wicket-keeper spot in the national team. Despite Kishan’s potential, Pant remains India’s first-choice keeper, and Jurel has impressed with both his batting and glove work.
In his two Test matches so far, Ishan Kishan has scored 78 runs, including a fifty, at an aggressive strike rate of 85.7. If he performs well in the Buchi Babu tournament, he could become a valuable asset for India’s batting lineup this home season.
