The newly constructed pitch at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York is facing heavy criticism during the T20 World Cup 2024.

Players and commentators have criticized the pitch, deeming it “dangerous” and “sub-standard,” sparking worries about player safety. Concerns about fair competition have also been raised due to the pitch’s conditions.
Both matches played at the venue so far have resulted in low scores. Tuesday’s clash between India and Ireland saw Ireland bowled out for a meager 96 runs, with India cruising to an easy eight-wicket victory. Similarly, on Monday, Sri Lanka was dismissed for just 77 runs against South Africa.
Ireland coach Heinrich Malan expressed his disappointment with the pitch conditions, emphasizing the need for a fair contest. He highlighted that while high-scoring matches aren’t essential, a balanced surface is crucial for competitive cricket.
Andy Flower, former England team director, echoed concerns, urging improvements for a more enjoyable experience for players and fans.
India’s Upcoming Matches:
Despite the pitch issues, Team India is scheduled to play their crucial matches against Pakistan on June 9th and co-hosts USA on June 12th at the same venue. It remains to be seen if the pitch conditions will improve for these high-profile encounters.
