IPL’s Biggest Trade Yet: Samson to Join CSK, Jadeja Returns to RR

In one of the biggest potential trades in IPL history, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly preparing to trade their long-time captain and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in exchange for allrounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Though both franchises have discussed the deal with the players involved, neither has officially confirmed the move yet. The trade will only proceed after written consent from all three players and final approval from the IPL governing council.

IPL’s Biggest Trade Yet: Samson to Join CSK, Jadeja Returns to RR

Samson, who has been with RR for 11 seasons, had reportedly asked the team to release him after IPL 2025, seeking a fresh challenge. Under his leadership, RR reached the 2022 IPL final and made the 2024 playoffs. He is the team’s all-time leading run-scorer with over 4000 runs and has been a core figure since first joining them in 2013.

For CSK, Jadeja has been one of the franchise’s most iconic players since 2012. Retained for INR 18 crore ahead of the 2025 season, he has been instrumental in three of CSK’s five title wins, including his match-winning performance in the 2023 final. Jadeja is CSK’s top wicket-taker and ranks fifth overall in IPL appearances. Interestingly, RR was the first team he represented when he won the inaugural IPL title in 2008.

Sam Curran, meanwhile, has had stints with Punjab Kings and CSK, returning to Chennai in 2025 for INR 2.4 crore. Despite a quiet season, his all-round skills keep him in high demand.

If finalized, the deal will mark one of the most high-profile swaps in IPL history—uniting Samson with CSK and bringing Jadeja back to the franchise where his IPL journey began.
