Delhi Capitals edged past Rajasthan Royals in a dramatic IPL 2025 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, clinching victory in the Super Over after both teams ended on 188. With just nine needed and six wickets in hand, RR looked set for a routine win. But Mitchell Starc turned the game on its head with a stunning final over, delivering five searing yorkers. Dhruv Jurel managed just a single off the final delivery, pushing the match into a tense Super Over.
Cracking under pressure, RR lost both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag to run-outs in a frantic five-ball Super Over. DC made light work of the 12-run target, with Tristan Stubbs finishing the chase in just four balls, smashing a six off Sandeep Sharma to seal the victory. Stubbs had earlier played a key role, scoring an unbeaten 34 off 18 to lift DC to a competitive total. He, along with Axar Patel who hammered 34 off just 14 balls, contributed vital runs in the closing stages.
RR’s bowlers faltered at the death. Sandeep, who had bowled economically, sent down an 11-ball over littered with wides and a no-ball, costing 19 runs. Riyan Parag’s dropped catch of Stubbs on 12 proved costly, as Stubbs made RR pay with late fireworks.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana struck fifties for RR. Rana, who was dropped by Stubbs on 20, powered his way to 51 before falling to a brilliant Starc yorker. Sanju Samson had started fluently but retired hurt with a side strain on 18.
DC had their struggles too. After losing early wickets, Abishek Porel’s 49 and Shai Hope’s steady 38 kept them afloat before Stubbs took charge.
Starc, despite a rough start, finished strong to hand DC their fifth win in six matches, pushing them to the top of the points table.
