James Anderson Enters IPL Auction for the First Time in 2025

The upcoming IPL 2025 auction has drawn 1,574 registered players, but perhaps the biggest surprise is the inclusion of James Anderson. The 42-year-old England legend, who retired from international cricket in July, has entered the IPL auction pool for the first time, setting his base price at INR 1.25 crore. Known for his long and illustrious Test career, Anderson has never participated in any global T20 franchise league. His last appearance in a T20 match was with Lancashire in 2014, and he has only played 44 T20 games overall, including 19 for England, where he took 41 wickets. Although T20 isn’t his strongest format, Anderson’s participation is a noteworthy moment for the league.

James Anderson’s T20I debut for England dates back to 2007, with his last appearance in the format in 2009 before England moved on from him for shorter formats. In an effort to extend his Test career, Anderson hasn’t played white-ball cricket for England since the 2015 World Cup. His inclusion in the auction aligns with a roster of 52 English players, including Jofra Archer, who hopes for a successful IPL comeback after a challenging season with Mumbai Indians.

In another major update, the IPL 2025 auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Initially planned for Riyadh, the BCCI made a last-minute venue change. This two-day auction event will see 1,574 players go under the hammer, including 320 capped, 1,224 uncapped, 409 overseas, and 30 from Associate Nations. With franchises retaining key players, 204 slots remain open for the new season’s lineups.
