Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Ishant Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during GT’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. The IPL confirmed in a statement that Ishant violated Article 2.2, which deals with the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a match.
This offence is categorized as a Level 1 breach. Ishant admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. As a result, no formal hearing was required.
Ishant had a tough outing against SRH in Hyderabad, conceding 53 runs in his four overs without taking a wicket. GT opted to substitute him out of the match 13 overs into their innings, bringing in Sherfane Rutherford as his replacement.
So far, Ishant has struggled in IPL 2025. He has bowled a total of eight overs across three matches, conceding 107 runs while managing to pick up just one wicket. His economy rate and lack of breakthroughs have been a concern for GT’s bowling unit.
Despite Ishant’s poor form, Gujarat Titans have enjoyed a strong start to the season. Their win over SRH marked their third consecutive victory, following an opening loss to Punjab Kings. The three wins in four matches have taken GT to the No. 2 position on the IPL points table, keeping them firmly in the race for a top-four finish.
