Iconic IPL Captains to Gather on March 20 for IPL 2025 Launch

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled the customary Indian Premier League (IPL) captains’ meet for March 20, 2025. This annual pre-season event will take place at the BCCI headquarters and the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. In previous years, the captains’ meet took place at the opening match venue. However, this year, the BCCI has planned a bigger agenda. All captains and team managers will attend the four-hour event, which will include a one-hour briefing and, subsequently, a customary photoshoot.

The 2025 IPL season is set to begin on March 22, with Kolkata Knight Riders facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens. The captains’ meet, just two days earlier, will include a detailed briefing on new changes and additions to the tournament. The BCCI aims to ensure complete transparency by informing captains about updates and guidelines for the upcoming season. Following the briefing and photoshoot, players will participate in sponsor activities at the Taj Hotel.

Five franchises will have new captains this season. Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals), Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings), and Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders) will lead their respective teams. They will join the continuing skippers—Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), and Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans). Pat Cummins, who will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad, is the only overseas captain this season. The Australian all-rounder arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday and will be available for the entire IPL 2025, despite the World Test Championship final scheduled for June 11.
