Dale Steyn Leaves Sunrisers Hyderabad Before IPL 2025 Mega Auction

In a surprising move for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fans, former South African pacer Dale Steyn announced that he will not return as the team’s bowling coach for the IPL 2025 season. While Steyn won’t be on the IPL sidelines, he reassured fans of his ongoing association with the franchise, confirming he will continue as a coach for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league.

In his heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Dale Steyn expressed gratitude to SRH, stating, “A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025.” This marks the end of an impactful chapter for Steyn in Hyderabad, where he played a crucial role in developing young pacers.

One of the standout talents under Dale Steyn’s mentorship was Umran Malik. Known for his raw pace, Malik blossomed with Steyn’s guidance, becoming a key asset in SRH’s bowling lineup. Steyn’s experience transformed Malik into a formidable bowler.

During Dale Steyn’s tenure, SRH reached the IPL 2024 final—their first since 2018—although they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Under head coach Daniel Vettori and James Franklin, who are likely to be retained, SRH laid a solid foundation for future success.

Steyn’s departure opens the door for a new bowling coach, while Franklin continues in his role. As SRH looks to build on last season’s achievements, Steyn’s legacy as a mentor will remain a significant part of the team’s journey.
