Ben Stokes, England’s dynamic all-rounder and Test captain, has decided to skip the IPL 2025, opting not to enter the upcoming mega auction in November. This move reflects his ongoing commitment to prioritizing Test cricket, a choice he’s consistently made over recent years to maintain his fitness for the longer format. Stokes last appeared in the IPL in 2023 with Chennai Super Kings but could only feature in two games due to a knee injury, bringing his overall IPL experience to just 45 matches. He also missed the 2024 season to focus on his national duties.

Throughout his IPL journey, Stokes has represented Rising Pune Supergiants, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings. Though widely regarded as a top all-rounder, recurring injuries have limited Stokes’ IPL appearances and affected his white-ball career for England. Notably, he missed the recent T20 World Cup in the Caribbean to prioritize his health.
Ben Stokes retired from ODIs in 2022, only to make a brief comeback for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Although Stokes hasn’t played in ODIs since, speculation suggests he might return for the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan this February.
Although Stokes is absent, 52 English players, including veteran bowler James Anderson, have registered for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Stokes’ decision underlines his commitment to Test cricket, while the auction list highlights a strong English presence for the upcoming IPL season.
