The upcoming match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024 faced an unexpected hurdle, throwing the April 5th encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad into a temporary disarray.
Payment Agreement and Installments

Just before the scheduled match, the venue encountered a power cut due to a payment dispute. The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) disconnected the stadium’s electricity supply over unpaid dues exceeding ₹3 crore.
Fortunately, the court intervened timely, ensuring the match proceeded as scheduled. Following negotiations and a court directive, the Uppal stadium management promptly agreed to settle the dues. According to the court’s order, they would pay half of the outstanding amount immediately, with the remaining balance settled in two equal installments within two months.
The power outage stemmed from a notice issued by the TSSPDCL to the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) demanding the clearance of pending electricity dues. Subsequently, the court ordered a partial upfront payment to restore power. Furthermore, the remaining balance must be paid in installments over the next two months.
Despite this administrative hurdle, the excitement for the high-voltage clash between SRH, led by captain Pat Cummins, and CSK remains undimmed. Sunrisers Hyderabad has had an inconsistent start to the season, recording one win and two losses in their first three matches. This currently places them at the seventh position in the IPL 2024 points table with two points.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings, boasting two convincing victories and a single defeat, find themselves comfortably positioned at number three with four points after three matches. Both teams will be vying for a win in this crucial IPL 2024 encounter as they look to solidify their position in the tournament. The resolution of the power situation paves the way for a thrilling clash between these two IPL giants.
