IPL 2025: Buttler and Maxwell’s Base Prices Revealed Ahead of Mega Auction

The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, following the completion of team retentions. A total of 1,574 players have registered for the auction, with 204 slots available for teams to fill, as they seek to strengthen their squads after retaining key players.

IPL 2025: Buttler and Maxwell’s Base Prices Revealed Ahead of Mega Auction

One of the biggest surprises on retention day was the decision by some IPL franchises to release major players. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made the bold move of releasing Glenn Maxwell, despite his reputation as a match-winner. The star all-rounder had a tough IPL 2024 season, which led RCB to part ways with him. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals shocked many by releasing Jos Buttler, their standout batter over the last three seasons. Buttler’s absence will certainly raise eyebrows, as he has been a consistent performer for RR.

Both Maxwell and Buttler have set their base prices at INR 2 crore for the auction, making them highly sought-after targets. Despite Buttler’s recent injury issues, his reputation as a destructive force in T20 cricket suggests his price could soar past the 10-crore mark. Maxwell, despite not being in his best form during IPL 2024, remains a prominent figure in the T20 circuit, and franchises are likely to compete for his services.

In addition to these two players, several other big names, including Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, and Jofra Archer, have also set their base prices at INR 2 crore, adding to the excitement of the upcoming auction. Teams will aggressively pursue these players to strengthen their squads for IPL 2025.
