A tragic incident occurred in Hanmantwadi, Kolhapur district, on the night of March 27, where a 63-year-old individual from Bandupant Tibile lost his life due to an altercation sparked by IPL 2024 fan violence. The victim, a Chennai Super Kings fan, expressed joy over a wicket against Mumbai Indians, leading to an altercation with opposing fans, resulting in severe injuries caused by beatings with a stick. This incident highlights the dangers of escalating IPL fan rivalry, which has reached unprecedented levels in IPL 2024, both in stadiums and on social media platforms. From fans booing players like Hardik Pandya to displaying placards questioning loyalty, the intensity of these rivalries has often crossed acceptable boundaries.
Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin criticized such extreme actions, stressing the importance of control and respect towards players, no matter which team they belong to.
