India secured their first win in the U19 Asia Cup 2024 on Monday, December 2, with a dominant 211-run victory over Japan in their second match of the tournament. The win lifted India to third place in the standings, with two points from one victory and one defeat, the latter coming against Pakistan. However, India’s qualification for the semi-finals remains uncertain, and their fate is dependent on the outcome of their final match.

To qualify for the semi-finals, India must defeat the UAE in their next match. A win will not only give India four points but also propel them to the top of the table, surpassing Pakistan, who have already qualified for the semi-finals. Currently, India has a net run-rate (NRR) of +1.680, which is better than Pakistan’s NRR of +1.120. If Pakistan wants to top the table, they must defeat Japan by a significant margin.
India’s match against UAE is now a must-win, as a defeat will end their campaign prematurely. The equation is clear: a victory will guarantee a semi-final spot and potentially top the group, while a loss will see them eliminated.
In India’s win over Japan, captain Mohammad Amaan played a pivotal role, scoring a century to help his side post 339 runs. Japan, in reply, were dismissed for just 128 runs, handing India a commanding 211-run victory. Chetan Sharma, Hardik Raj, and Karthikeya KP each took two wickets, contributing to the comprehensive win.
