India vs England, 5th Test: Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill shine with centuries as India builds substantial lead on Day 2

Team India dominated Day 2 of the fifth Test match against England in Dharamshala, establishing a commanding lead in the first innings, thanks to splendid centuries by captain Rohit Sharma and young talent Shubman Gill. The partnership between the two saw them amass 171 runs for the second wicket, driving India past England’s total of 218 runs. Both batsmen lost their wickets after lunch, giving England their first breakthroughs.

Following the departures of Sharma and Gill, debutant Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan continued India’s onslaught with impressive half-centuries, pushing the team past the 400-run mark. However, England’s spinner Shoaib Bashir, who had earlier dismissed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, struck back by claiming crucial wickets of Padikkal and Sarfaraz, triggering a lower-order collapse for India.

Despite a brief resurgence led by tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, England managed to make further inroads with Tom Hartley picking up quick wickets. Nevertheless, India ended the day at 473-8, boasting a substantial lead of 255 runs, with Kuldeep and Bumrah set to resume batting on Day 3.
