In the captivating showdown between bat and ball on Day 1 of the fifth Test between India and England, the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin mesmerized with their performances, restricting England to a modest total of 218 all out. Kuldeep’s magical spell fetched him five wickets for 72 runs, while Ashwin, marking his 100th Test appearance, claimed four wickets for 51 runs. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a crucial scalp, completing the spin troika’s dominance by accounting for all 10 English wickets.

In response, India’s opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal laid a solid foundation with their aggressive batting display. Rohit, leading from the front with an unbeaten 52 off 83 deliveries, and Jaiswal, crafting a composed 57 off 58 balls, stitched together an impressive 104-run partnership for the first wicket in just 20.4 overs. Shortly after reaching his half-century, Jaiswal suffered a dismissal to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, with Ben Foakes stumping him.
With Rohit still batting alongside Shubman Gill, who was not out on 26, India finished the day at 135 for one, behind England by 83 runs. Despite Zak Crawley’s solid innings of 79 runs off 108 balls giving England some hope, the day belonged to India’s spin experts, who dominated with their excellent bowling skills.
