India will face Australia in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy in Dubai on Tuesday after securing a 44-run victory over New Zealand in their final group-stage match on Sunday. New Zealand, meanwhile, will meet South Africa in the second semi-final in Lahore on Wednesday.

Due to scheduling complexities, both Australia and South Africa had already traveled to Dubai. An ICC official explained that the decision aimed to give Australia, playing in Dubai on March 4, maximum preparation time. However, this left South Africa in a difficult situation, as they had recently flown from Pakistan to Dubai and now must return to Pakistan.
The scheduling challenges stemmed from India’s refusal to play matches in Pakistan. Despite Pakistan officially hosting the tournament, India played all their games in Dubai. The PCB negotiated for months and even proposed Lahore as India’s venue, but the BCCI stated that the government did not grant approval.
New Zealand will take an early-morning flight to Lahore on Monday, while South Africa will return to Pakistan later that day, having spent just 36 hours in Dubai.
Reflecting on India’s unbeaten run, captain Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of momentum in a short tournament. He noted that learning from mistakes and making quick corrections had been crucial to their success. Looking ahead to the semi-final, he acknowledged Australia’s strong record in ICC tournaments but remained focused on India’s strategy.
“It’s going to be a good game,” Rohit said. “We know Australia’s history, but we need to focus on what we do best and get it right.”
