India heads into the fourth Test against England in Ranchi with a series lead of 2-1, aiming to maintain their dominance despite missing pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. The absence of Bumrah poses a concern, but India’s adaptability and assertiveness provide them with an edge over England, whose depth seems limited, particularly in the face of the resilient hosts’ performance.
India, eyeing their 17th consecutive series win at home, has displayed near invincibility since their defeat to England in 2012. Led by stand-in captain Rohit Sharma in the absence of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India’s young batting lineup has impressed, with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Shubman Gill stepping up to fill the void.
However, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the leading wicket-taker of the series, could pose a challenge for India.

Bumrah’s prowess in reverse swing has been crucial, especially on docile pitches. With Mohammed Siraj as the sole experienced pacer, India faces a dilemma in selecting the second pacer, with Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep as potential options.
The pitch in Ranchi historically favors a combination of two seamers and three spinners. While England has opted for off-spinner Shoaib Bashir to complement their bowling attack, India is expected to rely on their conventional two-pacer-three-spinner combination, featuring Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja.
England’s aggressive ‘Bazball’ approach, characterized by go-for-strokes batting, has faced criticism, especially after their comprehensive defeat in Rajkot. While this approach has worked for players like Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, it has led to struggles for others like Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. With India’s formidable spin attack, England faces a tough challenge in Ranchi.
With both teams aiming for victory, the fourth Test promises to be a gripping encounter as India looks to maintain their stranglehold over England and secure the series win.
