In a major development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved a budget of approximately USD 70 million for the Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host. The ICC’s financial and commercial committee, chaired by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, made the decision during a recent meeting. This budget, jointly prepared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the ICC finance department, includes an additional allocation of USD 4.5 million for unexpected expenses.

This budget approval has sparked speculation that the supplementary funds might cover potential challenges, such as India potentially not sending its team to Pakistan. If this situation occurs, the funds could help relocate matches to alternative venues. However, the additional USD 4.5 million appears modest in relation to the overall budget, raising questions about its adequacy for covering such scenarios.
In related news, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), also led by Jay Shah, recently awarded the T20 format Asia Cup 2025 to India and the 50-over format Asia Cup 2027 to Bangladesh. The tentative schedule for next year’s Asia Cup places India and Pakistan in the same group, setting up the possibility for multiple encounters if both teams advance through the tournament stages.
Despite some venue changes and extra costs during the 2023 Asia Cup held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the ACC turned a profit from the tournament.
