Perth Scorchers defeated Brisbane Heat by 33 runs at Optus Stadium, handing Heat their first loss of the season. Scorchers posted 165 for 6, thanks to Nick Hobson’s late onslaught. Hobson smashed an unbeaten 47 off just 16 balls, including 24 runs in the final over off Xavier Bartlett. Earlier, Cooper Connolly scored 37, while Aaron Hardie contributed a gritty 24 in his season debut. Spencer Johnson impressed for Heat, taking 4 for 20 in his return from injury.

Chasing 166, Heat struggled against Scorchers’ disciplined bowling and outstanding fielding. Lance Morris, bowling with fiery pace, dismissed Tom Banton on his first ball and finished with an impressive spell. Ashton Agar and Finn Allen produced brilliant run-outs, adding pressure to Heat’s chase. Matthew Renshaw and Max Bryant briefly resisted, scoring 36 and 35 respectively, but wickets fell regularly, and Heat were bowled out for 132.
Scorchers’ fielding efforts stood out, with Agar’s direct hit and Allen’s spectacular throw showcasing their sharpness. Meanwhile, Hobson’s heroics overshadowed Connolly’s struggles and Hardie’s rustiness. Hobson’s power-hitting, a result of focused training, provided the finishing touches Scorchers needed after a slow start.
Heat’s spinners, Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann, bowled well in tandem during the middle overs, containing Scorchers effectively. However, they couldn’t stem the tide when Hobson cut loose in the death overs. Despite their strong start with Johnson’s fiery spell and disciplined fielding, Heat’s batting faltered under the pressure of Scorchers’ relentless bowling and the lively Centurion pitch.
This victory ends Scorchers’ two-game losing streak and reaffirms their ability to bounce back strongly in the tournament.
