Hasan Ali Earns Recall as Pakistan Announces Squad for T20Is Against Ireland and England

Pakistan has unveiled its squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, with notable inclusions and omissions shaping the selection. Usama Mir and Zaman Khan have missed out, while Hasan Ali, making a return after last featuring in a T20I in 2022, headlines the list. Also making a comeback are Haris Rauf and Agha Salman.

In a press conference led by members of the selection panel, the return of Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, and Irfan Khan was highlighted. However, selector Wahab Riaz cautioned that their fitness is still under assessment, with hopes pinned on their availability for the Ireland series.

Rizwan emphasized, “There is a significant improvement in their fitness. They’re part of the squad because we hope they will be fit for the Ireland series.”

The squad largely retains players from the previous T20Is against New Zealand, with notable names such as Usman Khan, Mohammad Amir, and Imad Wasim maintaining their places. Despite speculation about Aamer Jamal’s potential return, he hasn’t been included, while Mohammad Haris remains sidelined.

Hasan Ali’s selection, despite not featuring in the recent series against New Zealand, is attributed to his experience and past performances in ICC tournaments. His standout performances for Karachi Kings in the PSL this year bolstered his case, showcasing his value beyond mere statistics.

The 18-man squad provides an opportunity to assess players like Hasan Ali in the upcoming series in Ireland and England, with the final squad of 15 for the T20 World Cup expected to be finalized later.

Pakistan is set to play three T20Is against Ireland starting May 10; thereafter, they will play four matches against England. However, the squad announcement deadline for the T20 World Cup falls after the first T20I against England on May 22.
