The Mumbai Indians suffered a disheartening IPL 2024 Match Results setback, going down by a massive 9-wicket margin to the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, took a critical look at the defeat, analyzing the factors that contributed to the loss and expressing his team’s determination to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger in their upcoming matches.

“We were under pressure right from the start,” Pandya admitted. “Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera batted brilliantly, but after losing early wickets, reaching 180 seemed far-fetched. We couldn’t capitalize at the death overs, leaving us 10-15 runs short. Our bowling in the Powerplay wasn’t at the desired level. We bowled too wide early on, and our fielding lacked sharpness. Overall, it wasn’t our best day on the field, and Rajasthan deservedly outplayed us.”
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, the Mumbai Indians faced a stern challenge from the Rajasthan bowling attack, spearheaded by Trent Boult and the impressive Sandeep Sharma. Mumbai’s top order faltered, deviating from their usual pattern of providing a strong foundation.
Despite the early setbacks, valiant knocks from Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera propelled Mumbai to a total of 179 runs. However, their initial target of exceeding 200 runs remained elusive due to Sandeep Sharma’s exceptional bowling display, claiming a five-wicket haul and restricting Mumbai’s scoring rate.
In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal played a magnificent innings, scoring a century and steering Rajasthan to a comfortable victory. Mumbai’s bowlers struggled to contain the Rajasthan batsmen throughout the match, resulting in a convincing win for the Royals.
