A minor calf issue has impacted Aaron Hardie’s chance to showcase his T20 World Cup potential, leading to his withdrawal from the New Zealand series. Hardie joined the squad as a replacement for Marcus Stoinis, who suffered a back injury, despite not being initially part of the original squad. However, calf tightness during a Sheffield Shield game prompted a precautionary scan, revealing no significant damage but resulting in his withdrawal.
Western Australia coach Adam Voges mentioned that Hardie’s calf issue is more of a precaution, and he will be available to bat if needed on the final day of the Shield clash. Australia’s ongoing changes in their white-ball selections now include calling in Spencer Johnson as a replacement for the New Zealand series.
Additionally, vice-captain Matthew Wade will miss the opening match due to staying in Hobart for the birth of his first child. Matthew Short is recovering from a hamstring injury, and Nathan Ellis is eager to secure a spot in Australia’s 15-man World Cup squad after missing the West Indies series due to a rib injury.
