Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is making a highly anticipated return to cricket, as he joins the Pakistan Champions for the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL). After a long absence from the national team since 2023, Sarfaraz will feature in the upcoming season of WCL, which kicks off on July 18, 2025.

The WCL, following a successful inaugural edition, saw India Champions defeat Pakistan Champions in a thrilling final. Now, ahead of the second season, Pakistan Champions have made a significant addition to their squad with Sarfaraz, known for leading Pakistan to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy, where they triumphed over India.
The official Pakistan Champions account highlighted Sarfaraz’s leadership qualities on social media, calling him a “CAPTAIN. LEADER. LEGEND.” His return is a boost for the team, given his wealth of experience and his record of leading Pakistan to 11 consecutive T20 series victories against top teams like Australia, New Zealand, and England.
Former cricketer Basit Ali has suggested that Sarfaraz take on a mentoring role for Pakistan’s national team ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy, given his success with the 2017 squad. Meanwhile, Pakistan has delayed its preparations for the tournament, and as a result, the squad is yet to be announced. However, Sarfaraz’s experience will prove invaluable as the team looks ahead to the prestigious tournament.
