New Zealand’s explosive opener, Finn Allen, will join the Perth Scorchers for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2024 season after he declined a central contract from New Zealand Cricket. According to ESPNCricinfo, Allen will ink a lucrative two-year deal with the BBL franchise, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.

Finn Allen Joins BBL Team After Turning Down New Zealand's Central Contract

Finn Allen has been in exceptional form in T20 cricket, boasting a strike rate of 168.60. He holds the second-highest strike rate among batters with over 3,000 runs in the format, trailing only West Indies’ Andre Russell. Despite his recent prowess, Allen’s performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup was underwhelming, managing just 35 runs across four innings.

Earlier this week, Finn Allen and fellow opener Devon Conway declined New Zealand’s central contracts. Unlike Allen, Conway has opted for a casual agreement with New Zealand Cricket, similar to former captain Kane Williamson. This allows Conway to remain available for New Zealand, though he will miss the upcoming Sri Lanka series in favor of participating in the SA20 league.

By turning down their contracts, Finn Allen and Devon Conway join a growing list of Kiwi players, including Lockie Ferguson, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Adam Milne, who have chosen to pursue opportunities outside of New Zealand’s central contract system.
