Fakhar Zaman Set to Break Shahid Afridi’s Big Record in Champions Trophy

Pakistan’s explosive opener, Fakhar Zaman, is on the verge of breaking a significant record held by Shahid Afridi in the Champions Trophy. Pakistan will face New Zealand in their tournament opener on February 19, and Fakhar has the chance to surpass Afridi’s tally of 1078 runs against the Black Caps in ODI cricket.

Fakhar Zaman Set to Break Shahid Afridi's Big Record in Champions Trophy

Fakhar, who has been in sensational form against New Zealand, has accumulated 1053 runs in just 19 innings, boasting an impressive average and strike rate. He now requires only 26 more runs to move ahead of Afridi and claim the third spot on the list of Pakistan’s highest run-scorers against New Zealand in ODIs. Currently, the top spots are held by Inzamam-ul-Haq, who leads with 1283 runs, followed by Saeed Anwar with 1260. Therefore, Fakhar is on the cusp of surpassing Afridi and further cementing his place in Pakistan’s ODI history.

Fakhar’s recent ODI form further adds to his potential for this achievement. In the recently concluded Champions Trophy, he scored 135 runs in three innings at an average of 45 and an explosive strike rate of 120.54. Given his current momentum, Fakhar is, therefore, expected to play a crucial role for Pakistan in the tournament.

As the team prepares for their opening match against New Zealand, Fakhar’s milestone could provide a significant boost to Pakistan’s confidence. The game will be a challenging one, but Fakhar’s eye on the record will surely add extra motivation as Pakistan aims for a strong start in the Champions Trophy.
