During a recent IPL 2024 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT), a moment caught the attention of fans worldwide as Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana appeared to touch the feet of legendary cricketer MS Dhoni before beginning his bowling spell. Social media erupted with applause for Pathirana’s apparent display of respect towards Dhoni, with videos of the moment circulating rapidly. However, upon closer examination, it becomes apparent that there might be a different explanation for Pathirana’s actions.

Contrary to the widespread assumption, Pathirana’s gesture was not a deliberate act of reverence towards Dhoni. Instead, it appears that Pathirana was simply picking up his bowling marker, coincidentally near Dhoni’s feet. Though some angles might have created an impression of Pathirana touching Dhoni’s feet, it’s important to note that this interpretation is not accurate.
While the incident initially garnered attention for its perceived sportsmanship, it serves as a reminder to exercise caution before jumping to conclusions based on surface-level observations.
Moving on to the match itself, CSK’s comprehensive victory underscored their dominance on the field, propelled by stellar performances from players like Shivam Dube and Ruturaj Gaikwad. With two convincing wins in their matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans, CSK currently leads the points table and appears poised for another successful season.
Looking ahead, CSK is gearing up for a crucial encounter against Delhi Capitals at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 31. Delhi Capitals, after suffering consecutive losses against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, will be eager to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming match.
