Debut: Devdutt Padikkal replaces Patidar for India in IND vs ENG 5th Test matchup

Devdutt Padikkal joins the elite ranks as the 314th Indian cricketer to feature in Test cricket, debuting in the 5th Test against England in Dharamsala. He replaces the injured Rajat Patidar in the middle order, showcasing India’s depth amidst the injury setback.

Hailing from Karnataka, Padikkal’s selection follows a stellar domestic season, highlighted by impressive performances in the 2023 Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy. With a commendable record of 2227 runs in 31 First-Class matches, including six centuries and 12 fifties, the 23-year-old batsman brings promise to the national side.

Padikkal’s inclusion marks India’s record-breaking feat of fielding five debutants in a single series, a testament to the team’s talent pool. Joining the likes of Rajat Patidar, Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, and Akash Deep, Padikkal represents the emerging talent driving India’s cricketing future.
