Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against England after suffering a hamstring injury in the opening match at Leeds. The left-hander picked up the injury while fielding on the boundary, where he dived to stop a Jos Buttler shot from reaching the fence. Though he saved the boundary, he hurt his left hamstring in the process. De Zorzi left the field for treatment and did not return, with team management confirming he would only bat if absolutely required. South Africa, chasing a modest 132, did not need his services and secured victory to take a 1-0 series lead. He will now return home for scans to assess the full extent of the injury.
Breetzke Expected to Return

No replacement has been named, as de Zorzi was the reserve batter in the squad. He came into the XI for Matthew Breetzke, who had been sidelined with a hamstring niggle. However, Breetzke has recovered and is available for the second ODI on Thursday, where he is expected to reclaim the No. 4 spot.
Rabada’s Fitness Remains Unclear
South Africa also face uncertainty over pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada, who missed the ODIs in Australia with ankle inflammation and was absent from the Leeds fixture. The inclusion of Durham seamer Codi Yusuf in the squad indicates Rabada may not feature until the T20I series.
Bavuma Under Workload Management
Another concern for the team is skipper Temba Bavuma, still being carefully managed after a hamstring injury during the World Test Championship final. Bavuma has featured in two ODIs in Australia and the first match against England but could be rested in one of the remaining games.
South Africa Eye Series Win
South Africa will look to clinch the series in the second ODI, holding a 1-0 advantage.
