Cummins Looks for Bigger Contributions from Marsh and Green in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024

Australia captain Pat Cummins has revealed that he plans to rely more on all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh with the ball during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. The series, which begins on November 22 in Perth, will also include matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne before concluding in Sydney on January 3.

Given the intense schedule of five Tests over just six weeks, both teams are expected to be pushed to their limits. Cummins believes that Green and Marsh will play a crucial role in the bowling department. He noted that recent Test series have been relatively quick, but he anticipates this summer could be different.

“I suspect this summer might be a bit different at times. We’ll be drawing on Cam Green and Mitch Marsh a bit more,” Cummins said. He highlighted that Green, who initially began as a bowler in domestic cricket, has not had as many opportunities to bowl in Test matches. However, having additional bowling options like Green and Marsh will be beneficial.

Cummins also emphasized the importance of having a fifth bowling option, especially with Nathan Lyon providing a significant number of overs. To prepare for the series, Cummins will miss the white ball tour of England and Scotland in September to manage his workload, focusing on fitness and recovery. He hopes to be in peak condition for the first Test, aiming for his best form in years.
