Following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) impressive victory over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) at the electrifying Wankhede Stadium, pacer Matheesha Pathirana attributed his stellar performance to maintaining composure while bowling against MI’s formidable batting line-up.
In a thrilling IPL 2024 encounter, CSK clinched a nail-biting 20-run win over MI, despite Rohit Sharma’s heroic century for the home team. MI were restricted to 186/6 in their 20 overs, with Pathirana’s four-wicket haul playing a pivotal role in CSK’s triumph. This excellent performance shows that he’s a standout player for the team that won last time, getting eight wickets in only three games at a great average of 11.

Pathirana reflected on his match-winning heroics, stating, “I felt a bit nervous during the powerplay, but staying calm and focusing on my bowling strategy boosted my confidence.”
“I don’t dwell too much on the outcome; instead, I prioritize executing my plans. When I execute well, the results follow. Sometimes, I need to adapt my strategy based on the opposition’s batters,” Pathirana added.
Earlier in the match, commendable batting performances by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube propelled the defending champions to a competitive total.
However, the defining moment of the encounter was the arrival of the legendary MS Dhoni at the crease. MI skipper Hardik Pandya faced criticism after conceding three consecutive sixes off Dhoni’s bat in his aggressive innings of 20 runs off just four balls. These winning runs significantly contributed to CSK’s winning total, ultimately proving to be enough for the visitors to clinch victory.
