Cricket Scotland is facing serious accusations of racism and mistreatment of its female staff and players following the release of the McKinney Report, a 35-page document conducted by a respected Scottish firm. This report follows accusations from nearly two years ago when Cricket Scotland faced allegations of being “institutionally racist” in an independent investigation named “Changing The Boundaries.”
The McKinney Report highlights concerning issues within Cricket Scotland, including a “high degree of prejudice towards female staff and players.” It delves into six key themes, such as culture, leadership, employment practices, psychological safety, and sexism.
Trudy Lindblade, CEO of Cricket Scotland, expressed profound concerns about the organization’s attitudes and offered apologies to those affected. She characterized the report as a severe condemnation of the treatment of female players and staff, recognizing disrespectful and demeaning behavior that went unaddressed.
Lindblade stressed Cricket Scotland’s commitment to addressing these issues and enhancing the status of women and girls in Scottish cricket. The report identifies various causes of sexism, including committee composition, entrenched male behaviors, lack of female game officials, and inadequate support for the women’s game.
In response, Cricket SCO has pledged to pursue pay equity, aiming for parity between male and female players’ remuneration. They aim to ensure equal match fees and tour fees for both genders, demonstrating a proactive approach to addressing gender disparities in Scottish cricket.
