Mayank Yadav drew attention, while Arshdeep Singh earned the Player-of-the-Match award for his impressive 3 for 14. Hardik Pandya effectively silenced the Bangladesh batters, contributing significantly with the bat. For Varun Chakravarthy, returning to the Indian team after nearly three years felt like a “rebirth,” as he played a crucial role in India’s commanding seven-wicket victory in the first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior on Sunday. His bowling figures of 3 for 31 marked a successful comeback.

“After three long years, it was definitely emotional for me. It feels nice to be back in the Blues; it feels like a rebirth,” Varun told Murali Kartik during the post-match broadcast. He acknowledged the challenges of being away from the national side, stating, “Once you’re not in the Indian side, people tend to write you off. You have to keep knocking on the door.”
Varun enjoyed a successful year with his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which won the IPL 2024. He was the team’s highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets in 14 matches. In August, he contributed to the Dindigul Dragons’ victory in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), where he took 2 for 26 in the final and was joint-highest wicket-taker for his team.
Reflecting on his preparation, Varun shared, “After the IPL, I played in the TNPL, which has a high standard of cricket. Working with Ashwin helped build my confidence.” He emphasized his focus on the process and staying present, aiming to replicate his IPL success in this series. Despite a dropped catch in his second over, Varun remained grateful and optimistic about his performance.
