Suryakumar Yadav has been cleared by the National Cricket Academy to participate in the final round of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy, starting in Anantapur on Thursday. He will replace Sarfaraz Khan in the India B squad, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will face India D, captained by Shreyas Iyer. Sarfaraz is now part of India’s Test squad for their series against Bangladesh, beginning in Chennai on Thursday.

Yadav initially withdrew from the squad for the first round as a precaution because of a thumb injury. He had experienced discomfort while gripping the bat after a blow to his right thumb during the pre-season Buchi Babu Invitational in Coimbatore.
The Indian T20I captain hasn’t played first-class cricket since last year’s Duleep Trophy, but he has expressed a strong desire to compete for a spot in India’s Test team. Yadav mentioned his goal of earning his place again, while also recognizing the hard work of other players who have seized opportunities in his absence. Moreover, he is looking forward to participating in ongoing tournaments like the Buchi Babu and Duleep Trophy, and he remains hopeful for future Test opportunities.
Yadav is likely to play in the home T20Is against Bangladesh in October, which might cause him to miss the opening round of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season starting on October 11. India B, who began the tournament with a significant win over India A, are currently second in the table. An outright win in their final game could secure them the title.
