Smriti Mandhana, the star of the Indian women’s cricket team and captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB-W), won the Sportswoman of the Year award in the Team Sports category at the fifth edition of the Indian Sports Honours. The ceremony, held on November 9, 2024, in Mumbai, celebrated India’s top athletes and sports achievements from the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, and more.

Mandhana, who led RCB-W to victory in the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL), claimed this prestigious award for the second time, having first received it in 2019. Her remarkable consistency with the bat, leadership skills, and strategic brilliance were key factors in earning her the recognition. Whether representing India or captaining RCB-W, Mandhana consistently delivered under pressure, making her one of the most influential figures in women’s cricket.
Reflecting on her achievement, Mandhana expressed pride not just in her personal success but also in inspiring other women in sports. “I hope this inspires all the women out there to reach new heights,” she said. Her words resonated with the growing presence of women in competitive sports, showcasing the significance of her award beyond just cricket.
In addition to Mandhana’s success, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were named Club of the Year for their dominant IPL 2024 campaign. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and mentorship of Gautam Gambhir, KKR secured their third IPL title with an impressive eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. The event celebrated their remarkable performance, further cementing their legacy in Indian cricket.
