Shakib Al Hasan has joined the Chittagong Kings for the upcoming 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season. The star all-rounder previously played for the Rangpur Riders in 2024, but both parties agreed to end their two-year contract.
In addition to Shakib, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has signed with Fortune Barishal. Shanto played for Barishal in 2022 before moving to the Sylhet Strikers for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Despite facing security concerns amid ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh, Shakib is set to participate in the BPL 2025 season. The BPL draft took place on October 14, where Shakib and Shoriful Islam were direct signings for the Chittagong Kings. Notably, Shakib’s former rival, Angelo Mathews, is also part of the Kings as a foreign signing.
The current roster for the Chittagong Kings includes Shamim Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, Khaled Ahmed, Aliss Al Islam, Mohammad Mithun, Naeem Islam, Maruf Mridha, Rahatul Ferdous Javed, Shakib Al Hasan, Shoriful Islam, Sheikh Parvez Jibon, Marshall Ayub, Graham Clarke, Thomas O’Connell, Moeen Ali, Usman Khan, Haider Ali, Angelo Mathews, Mohammad Wasim Jr, and Binura Fernando.
Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto returns to Fortune Barishal after his earlier stint with the franchise. The BPL 2025 season is scheduled to begin in late December or early January, overlapping with the conclusion of the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) season.
