On August 25, Bangladesh made history by defeating Pakistan in Test cricket for the first time ever. Under Shan Masood’s captaincy, Pakistan, despite a strong start, faced a 10-wicket defeat at home.

Pakistan, batting first, scored 448 runs thanks to centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel before declaring their innings. In response, Bangladesh surpassed them with 565 runs, highlighted by a century from Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently reached 15,000 international runs.
In the second innings, Pakistan crumbled for just 146 runs as they struggled against spin. Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Shakib Al Hasan led the attack, taking four and three wickets respectively. Shakib’s three-wicket haul in this innings made him the leading left-arm spinner in international cricket history, surpassing Daniel Vettori’s record. Before this match, Vettori held the top spot with 705 wickets, but Shakib now has 706, making him the top left-arm spinner across all formats. Shakib also became the 16th highest wicket-taker in cricket history.
Despite his impressive performance, Shakib made headlines for a different reason when he threw a ball towards Rizwan’s head in frustration after the Pakistani keeper-batter took too long to face the ball. This incident added controversy to an otherwise historic match for Bangladesh.
