Rohit Sharma to Join Indian Team and Play Warm-Up Match Before Adelaide Test: Reports

Rohit will play a two-day pink-ball warm-up match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI to prepare for the day-night Test in Adelaide. The fixture, scheduled to start on November 30, will provide crucial match practice for the Indian captain, helping him adapt to the challenging conditions posed by the pink ball under lights in Australia. Rohit has reportedly informed the BCCI about his travel plans and confirmed his availability for the warm-up game.

With Rohit unavailable for the first Test, vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian team in Perth. Adding to India’s challenges, Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the opener due to a fractured thumb sustained during an intra-squad match at the WACA. This leaves India without two key batters at the top of the order.

KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the leading candidates to open in Rohit and Gill’s absence. Additionally, the team management has asked left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal to stay with the squad as cover.

This series holds significant importance for India’s World Test Championship (WTC) campaign. Currently trailing in the standings, India must win four out of five Tests to secure a spot in the WTC final. Achieving this against a strong Australian side on their home soil will be a monumental task.
