Rohit Sharma Expected to Miss First Test Against Australia for Personal Reasons

India could be without captain Rohit Sharma for at least one Test in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series against Australia. According to PTI, Rohit Sharma has informed the BCCI that he might miss the first Test in Perth, scheduled for November 22, due to personal reasons. This potential absence comes as India prepares for a five-match Test series in November, with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 set to feature two of cricket’s top teams battling in the toughest format.

A BCCI source shared that while the situation remains uncertain, Rohit Sharma has indicated that he may skip one of the first two Tests due to a pressing personal matter. If Rohit resolves the issue before the series starts, he could still play all five matches.

If Rohit Sharma misses a game, the selectors might call up Abhimanyu Easwaran, who will be in Australia leading India A. As for leadership, India has not officially designated a vice-captain for the Test format. Potential candidates to temporarily fill the role include Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill.

Rohit’s possible absence has sparked speculation, with many linking it to rumours that he and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, are expecting their second child. The couple, who already have a daughter, Samaira, were recently seen at an event, fueling talk about Ritika’s pregnancy. If the reports are accurate, Rohit’s absence could coincide with the birth of their second child, explaining his need to skip part of the tour.
