PAK vs AUS: Mohammad Rizwan Close to Breaking Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Prestigious Record

Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s newly appointed captain, is on the brink of breaking a significant record held by former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. As Pakistan prepares to face Australia in the second One-Day International of their three-match series at Adelaide Oval, Rizwan has a golden opportunity to etch his name in history.

PAK vs AUS: Mohammad Rizwan Close to Breaking Sarfaraz Ahmed's Prestigious Record

Since his debut, Rizwan has been a key player for Pakistan, particularly in the shorter formats. In the series opener against Australia at the MCG, Rizwan contributed with a solid 44 runs before falling to Marnus Labuschagne. However, the second ODI offers him a chance to regain his form and play a pivotal role for his team. Rizwan, currently the only Pakistani keeper-batter with over 1000 runs against Australia, is set to surpass Sarfaraz Ahmed in the list of most fifty-plus scores as a wicketkeeper against the Aussies.

Most fifty-plus scores by a Pakistani wicketkeeper vs Australia:

  • Mohammad Rizwan: 30 innings, 6 scores
  • Sarfaraz Ahmed: 27 innings, 6 scores
  • Kamran Akmal: 42 innings, 4 scores
  • Moin Khan: 35 innings, 3 scores
  • Saleem Yousuf: 21 innings, 3 scores

With both Rizwan and Sarfaraz tied on six fifty-plus scores, Rizwan needs just one more to break the record and make history.

Pakistan is looking for a comeback after losing the first ODI by two wickets. Batting first, they collapsed to Australia’s strong bowling attack, setting just 204 runs. Australia responded with a mini-collapse of their own, but captain Pat Cummins’ unbeaten 32 guided them to victory. As the series heads into a must-win second ODI, Pakistan will be eager to bounce back and restore parity.
