Patel had been batting well, striking two fours in the sixth over of the match, but soon began feeling unwell. Before the start of the seventh over, he informed the umpires that he was experiencing pain in his neck and hand. Patel mentioned that he would go off the field to take a medicine pill for relief. The umpires advised him to seek medical attention immediately and head to the hospital.

Patel started walking towards the pavilion, but tragically, he collapsed near the boundary rope before reaching the dugout. His teammates and match officials rushed to his aid and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital. However, despite their efforts, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Imran Patel leaves behind his wife, three daughters, mother, and siblings. His family and the local cricket community will deeply miss him, especially for his exceptional batting skills. The incident mirrors the tragic loss of Australian cricketer Phil Hughes, who also died after being struck on the head during a match.
