Former Indian fast bowler and ex-Royal Challengers Bangalore star Varun Aaron has announced his retirement from international cricket. Aaron shared the news through a social media post, thanking his family, coaches, and sponsors for their support throughout his career.

Aaron made his first-class debut in 2008 against Jammu and Kashmir and quickly earned recognition for his raw pace. He made his Test debut for India in 2011 against the West Indies, featuring in nine Tests and taking 18 wickets. In ODIs, he picked up 11 wickets from nine matches. Despite showing great promise, injuries hampered his international career.

While his time with the Indian team was limited, Aaron remained a key figure in domestic cricket. He claimed 168 wickets in 65 first-class matches at an average of 33.74, including six five-wicket hauls. He also had a stint with Leicestershire in the English county circuit.

In a heartfelt post, Aaron expressed gratitude for his cricketing journey and hinted at a future in broadcasting. Earlier in 2024, he had retired from first-class cricket after a 15-year career, with his final red-ball appearance for Jharkhand coming in a Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan at Keenan Stadium, Jamshedpur. The decision, he shared, was influenced by physical limitations.

Aaron played 52 matches in the IPL, taking 44 wickets at an economy rate of 8.94. He debuted in 2011 and last appeared in the league in 2022. Known for his express pace, he had memorable spells with RCB but gradually faded from the spotlight.

Though stepping away from active cricket, Aaron is expected to remain involved as an analyst, continuing his association with the game off the field.
