Ishan Kishan will captain Jharkhand in the first two matches of the 2024 Ranji Trophy

Ishan Kishan is set to lead the Jharkhand squad in their first two matches of the Ranji Trophy 2024 season. After missing the previous season, Kishan returns to captaincy, a role he last held during the 2018-19 season. Jharkhand has announced a 16-member squad, starting their campaign against Himachal Pradesh in Dharamsala as part of Elite Group B.

Recently, Kishan played for the Rest of India in the Irani Cup but did not keep wickets, with Dhruv Jurel taking on that role. It is likely that Kumar Kushagra will keep wickets for Jharkhand during the Ranji matches. In the Irani Cup, Kishan scored only 38 runs in the first innings as Mumbai clinched the title for the first time in 27 years. He also participated in the Duleep Trophy, representing India C, marking his return to first-class cricket since December 2022.

Kishan is eager to make a comeback to the Indian national team, having last played for India in the T20I series against Australia in November 2023. Although he was part of the tour to South Africa in December, he returned home midway due to personal reasons. During this time, Kishan lost his BCCI central contract, which emphasized the importance of domestic performances for players not representing the national side. With Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel currently favored as wicketkeepers, Kishan has a challenging path ahead as he aims for his return to the Indian team.

Jharkhand’s squad for the first two Ranji Trophy matches includes:

  • Ishan Kishan (captain)
  • Virat Singh (vice-captain)
  • Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper)
  • Nazim Siddique
  • Aryaman Sen
  • Sharandeep Singh
  • Kumar Suraj
  • Anukul Roy
  • Utkarsh Singh
  • Supriyo Chakraborty
  • Saurabh Shekhar
  • Vikas Kumar
  • Vivekanand Tiwary
  • Manishi
  • Ravi Kumar Yadav
  • Raunak Kumar
