Shubman Gill and Maheesh Theekshana have claimed the No. 1 spots in the latest ICC men’s ODI rankings, released on the opening day of the Champions Trophy. Gill has overtaken Babar Azam as the top-ranked batter, while Theekshana has surpassed Rashid Khan to become the leading bowler.

Gill’s rise comes after a stellar performance in India’s 3-0 ODI series win against England. He was the top run-scorer, amassing 259 runs at an average of 86.33 and a strike rate of 103.60. His scores of 87, 60, and 112 put him well ahead of the next-best batter, Shreyas Iyer, who managed 181 runs. This is the second time Gill has topped the ODI rankings, having previously done so during the 2023 World Cup. He currently holds 796 rating points, ahead of Babar, who has 773. Rohit Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Daryl Mitchell round out the top five, with Mitchell climbing two places after strong performances in the Pakistan tri-series.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka has made notable progress, jumping eight spots to No. 8 after an impressive ODI series against England. Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has also moved up to 15th place.
On the bowling front, Theekshana’s impressive showing in Sri Lanka’s ODI series against Australia, where he took 4 for 40 in one match, propelled him to the top with 680 rating points. Rashid, who has not played an ODI since December, has slipped to No. 2 with 669 points. Namibia’s Bernard Scholtz is third, followed by India’s Kuldeep Yadav and Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner also made gains, moving up five spots to No. 7 after picking up five wickets in the Pakistan tri-series.
