The incident occurred as du Plessis attempted to save a boundary for his team, Delhi Bulls, in a match against Morrisville Samp Army. The batter, who switched from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 auction, fell awkwardly during the play, putting his safety at risk.

The collision happened during the eighth over of the Delhi Bulls’ chase of 113 runs. As the Samp Army’s captain, Rohan Mustafa, brought in Isuru Udana to bowl, Delhi’s explosive finisher, Tim David, took charge. David hammered Udana for two consecutive boundaries, including a massive six, and finished the over with another four.

On the final delivery, David edged a slower ball from Udana that just crossed the boundary rope. Du Plessis, desperate to save the boundary, dived to intercept the ball but collided with the ball boy. In a surprising turn of events, the ball boy tried to lift du Plessis, causing the batter to fall behind the digital advertising board, narrowly avoiding a severe injury.

In the end, the Samp Army narrowly defeated Delhi Bulls by two runs in a thrilling contest. Batting first, the Samp Army posted a challenging total of 112 runs. Despite Tim David’s brilliant knock, the Bulls fell short in their chase, sealing a hard-fought victory for Samp Army.
