Authorities found 77-year-old Mala Ashok Ankola, the mother of former Indian cricketer Salil Ankola, dead under mysterious circumstances at her home on Prabhat Road, Pune. Her death has left the Ankola family and the community in shock, while authorities investigate the suspicious situation.
The housemaid discovered Mala’s lifeless body in a room locked from the inside, with a fatal neck injury, reportedly caused by a kitchen knife. While initial reports suggest she may have inflicted the injury herself, the locked door raises questions about the exact cause of her death.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sandeep Gill confirmed that the police are considering all possibilities, including natural causes or foul play. However, he emphasized that they would not draw conclusions until receiving the post-mortem report. Doctors at Poona Hospital declared Mala dead on arrival after she was rushed there.
Salil Ankola, who enjoyed a promising cricket career before transitioning into television and acting, confirmed the devastating news on social media. He posted a heartfelt tribute to his mother, writing, “Goodbye Mom,” alongside an emotional image. Support from friends, fans, and the cricket fraternity has poured in, offering condolences during this tragic time.
