Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni is scheduled to meet with franchise officials on either October 29 or 30, just ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline. This meeting is crucial, as the CSK management is eager to learn about Dhoni’s availability for the upcoming season. With the retention deadline set for October 31, anticipation builds around whether the legendary wicketkeeper-batter will return for what could be his final IPL season.

As of now, Dhoni has not confirmed his participation in IPL 2025. Reports from Sports Tak indicate that CSK officials reached out to him earlier, but Dhoni stated he wouldn’t be available for discussions until after October 28, hence the planned meeting on the 29th or 30th. The franchise remains hopeful about retaining their long-time skipper, who has led them to multiple IPL titles over the years.
If Dhoni decides to play another season, CSK can retain him under the recently reinstated ‘uncapped player’ rule. This rule enables any player who retired from international cricket five years before the season or hasn’t played international cricket in the past five years to be classified as ‘uncapped.’ Dhoni, who last represented India in 2019 and retired in 2020, qualifies for this provision, allowing CSK to retain him for a fee of INR 4 crore.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Dhoni’s availability and confirmed that they will make a final decision before the October 31 retention deadline. As the franchise prepares for the meeting, cricket fans eagerly await Dhoni’s decision, which could significantly impact CSK’s plans for IPL 2025.
