Bavuma will miss the first Test against Bangladesh

Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh due to a muscle strain in his left triceps. The injury was confirmed through scans, prompting South Africa to make adjustments to their squad. Aiden Markram will take over as captain for the first Test, which is scheduled to take place in Dhaka starting October 21.

Earlier, Nandre Burger was also ruled out of the series due to a lumbar stress reaction. In response to these absences, Dewald Brevis and Lungi Ngidi have been added to the South African squad. According to a statement from Cricket South Africa (CSA), Bavuma will travel with the team to Dhaka on Tuesday. He will continue his recovery under the supervision of the Proteas medical staff as they prepare for the second Test, which will begin in Chattogram on October 29.

Bavuma’s injury issues began when he was sidelined from the third ODI against Ireland on October 6 due to an elbow problem. He had previously retired hurt during the second ODI on October 4 and did not field in that match. Rassie van der Dussen stepped in as captain during Bavuma’s absence, while Markram was rested for that series.

Brevis, who has yet to make his Test debut, has been called up as cover for Bavuma. He has played two T20 internationals and 12 first-class matches, most recently scoring 49 and 74 for South Africa A against Sri Lanka A. Ngidi completed the fast-bowling lineup after participating in all three ODIs against Ireland, where he took two wickets in the first two matches.
